The finance sector has a particular focus on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) factors and ratings and large financial institutions have played a leading role in including sustainability metrics in procurement. Our team have provided scope 2 and 3 carbon footprint analysis to multiple high street banks, accountancy firms and financial institutions, providing tailored illustrations and visualisations of data to assist with sustainable decision making and procurement.
The UK Government has taken a lead in promoting sustainability throughout the public and private sector, not least through the Technology Code of Practice issued by DEFRA. P2zero is proud to have been invited to join the GDSA (Government Digital Sustainability Alliance). As well as providing device carbon footprint analysis for a number of departments the P2zero team has provided detailed ICT carbon footprint analysis and reduction options to the two largest departments, the DWP (who feature as a case study) and the Ministry of Defence (who provided project feedback).
A combination of funding pressures and complex service-user requirements mean that local government and health providers are under extreme pressure. Adding in Net Zero targets might be seen to be an additional burden, however sustainable policies can reduce costs and are popular with staff, helping with attraction and retention. The P2zero team has provided carbon footprint assessments and benchmarking to multiple organisations including Kingston and Sutton Councils (who feature as a case study) and Lancashire County Council (who provided project feedback).
Academics play a leading role in advancing and discussing sustainability. In addition, universities compete for students both nationally and internationally. Student satisfaction is a key metric, with sustainability being of very great interest to the student population. The P2zero team has worked with multiple universities including Imperial College London to provide detailed carbon footprint analysis and work on carbon reduction plans. The University of Sussex provided project feedback that can be found here.
Net Zero plans and commitments play an important role in attracting and retaining customers and investors as well as staff. Many retail and commercial organisations have substantial office, warehouse and customer-facing premises and technology, as well as having long and complex supply chains. The P2zero team has worked with many leading retail organisations, including M&S, Decathlon and Travis Perkins to help profile, benchmark and reduce aspects of their ICT carbon footprint.
Faced with exceptional demands around compliance and accountability, the energy, science and pharmaceuticals sector is also a major user of computing power at the desk, in the data centre and in the cloud. The team at P2zero has worked with some of the world's largest international firms to provide geographical analysis of their ICT scope 2 and 3 carbon footprint data. One of the leading advocates of sustainable electricity OVO energy provided a case study on a recent project which is available here.
The technology sector plays a significant role in creating worldwide emissions. In terms of personal digital devices alone (smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktops) nearly 2 billion new devices are manufactured each year, drawing on scarce resources across the planet. The team at P2zero has worked with technology companies at all levels, from some of the world's tech giants to systems integrators and value added resellers, providing a mix of projects from carbon footprint analysis to channel training and certification.
The charity and not for profit sector includes a wide variety of organisations delivering services that benefit the public and the environment. The team at P2zero is proud to have worked on projects for some of the leading organisations in the sector, including the RSPB and the British Film Institute (BFI) who provided a case study on the project.
